In the agricultural world, the challenge of adapting and growing is constant. This was the central theme of the recent episode of Agrositio, where we had the honor of speaking with Rubén Berardo, owner of Berardo Agropecuaria, who has led his company to manage 45,000 hectares through an innovative management model.

Berardo Agropecuaria began as a family business, created by Rubén and his cousins after their parents and uncles separated. From the beginning, they faced significant challenges, such as transitioning from a livestock-based productive model to an agricultural one. Despite difficulties, such as the severe drought of 2000, Rubén and his team restructured, implementing a shared farming model that allowed them to diversify their production and strengthen their operational capacity.

Rubén highlights the importance of technology and innovation as pillars of his strategy. By integrating new technologies and good agricultural practices, they not only improved their production but also optimized their resources and maximized their efficiency.

The Value of Collaborative Networks

One of the key elements of their success has been the creation of collaborative work networks. By partnering with other producers and suppliers, Berardo Agropecuaria not only increased its operational capacity but also strengthened the social fabric of its community. Rubén emphasizes that “leadership is about sharing,” highlighting his commitment to joint development and sustainability.

Financing and Growth Strategies

The company has explored various financing schemes that have allowed them to invest in their growth. In a context where many were hesitant to risk capital, Rubén identified key opportunities, adapting to the circumstances and seizing the right moment to expand.

Since 2001, Berardo Agropecuaria has experienced accelerated growth, increasing its planted area from 2,000 hectares to the current 45,000. This growth has been achieved through strategic management and the incorporation of a young and dynamic team, reflecting Rubén’s commitment to the professional development of his team.

A New Business Approach

Rubén also shared his reflection on the shift in mindset from entrepreneur to businessman. At 60 years old, he decided to start delegating responsibilities and allow his team to take a more prominent role in managing the company. “I don’t want to be the brake on this company,” said Rubén, emphasizing his desire for the company to continue growing alongside his team.

Today, he works alongside his daughter Macarena and a group of technicians in the formation of a board of directors that will guide Berardo Agropecuaria into the future, ensuring the sustainability and continued growth of the company.

The story of Berardo Agropecuaria is an inspiring testament to how adaptability, innovation, and collaborative work can lead a company to new horizons. At Simpleza, we believe these lessons are valuable not only for the agricultural sector but for any industry looking to grow and thrive in a changing environment.
